FareShare expands its reach to complement SecondBite produce at NSW homelessness support charity Dignity

Capitalising on SecondBite’s extensive infrastructure and networks, which includes dozens of trucks and more than 1,000 charity partners, FareShare meals have begun to travel farther and wider than ever before, to reach communities that really need them.

Longstanding SecondBite charity partner Dignity is one such organisation that now receives FareShare meals. The impact at this homelessness support charity, which has nine locations in New South Wales, has been instant, according to the people at risk of homelessness in the community who visit Dignity’s food relief branches, in need of a comforting meal.

“I can’t believe this! Most of the time I don’t bother to eat anything myself and only make something for my son. These meals have been a lifesaver, I am actually eating and looking after me,” says one Dignity food relief recipient.

Dignity supports their community members via a volunteer program with incredible volunteer cooks preparing hundreds of meals every week using SecondBite produce. In 2024, Dignity received more than 40,000kgs of fresh, nutritious food from SecondBite.

But with the cost-of-living pressures showing no signs of abating, the need has grown. That’s why Dignity has been so grateful for the FareShare meals they have recently begun receiving.

“FareShare meals have really helped us rise to the challenge of the increasing demand,” says Dignity CEO Suzanne Hopman. “We often hear feedback about how delicious they are and how much of a difference the meals make for someone doing it tough. They’re very much appreciated.”

It’s great to be able to extend the reach of our meals to help provide crucial support to people in more areas across Australia.

“The merger between FareShare and SecondBite has helped FareShare meals reach Dignity’s food relief program, which greatly assists people at risk of homelessness across New South Wales,” says Daniel Moorfield, SecondBite | FareShare CEO. “These free, nutritious meals will help provide dignity and a hot feed, and ease the financial burden of putting food on the table.”

This in turn helps Dignity focus on their great range of services that empower people at risk of homelessness to prevent it from occurring, and on their temporary accommodation guest homes that help them respond to people currently experiencing homelessness.

As SecondBite | FareShare, our meals complement SecondBite produce, creating a more comprehensive solution for charities like Dignity. We are proud to assist this charity partner and look forward to expanding our reach to other charities and locations in the near future.
