5 things FareShare is looking forward to in 2025

2025 is shaping up to be a big year for FareShare. Here are five things we are looking forward to:

1. Ramping up production in our Abbotsford kitchen

The major redevelopment of our Abbotsford kitchen, which finished in April 2024, gave our Melbourne chefs the capability to cook up to another half million free, nutritious meals every year.

Following the redevelopment, we worked hard to onboard new volunteers, implement strong food safety and workplace safety standards, and to get accustomed to the new equipment.

Our Melbourne chefs are now ready to ramp up production and cook more meals for people who need them most. Make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates.

2. Expanding our First Nations program

FareShare’s First Nations program is set for another action-packed year.

Our Meals for the Mob program continues to expand into new First Nations communities in Queensland. In 2024, we also expanded Meals for the Mob to our Abbotsford kitchen. This has already created new opportunities to collaborate with First Nations communities in Victoria and helped provide targeted food relief where it’s needed most. And we’re only just getting started.

Meanwhile, SecondBite | FareShare is excited to continue progressing through our Reconciliation Action Plan. We are proud to have completed the first stage, ‘Reflect’, and look forward to moving to the ‘Innovate’ stage in 2025.

3. Leading the way in freeze-dried and thermal processing technologies

By expanding our meal range to include non-perishable meals, FareShare is working to address the storage and infrastructure challenges often seen in the food relief space, especially by those impacted by natural disasters and living in remote areas.

This year, FareShare Brisbane will continue to harness freeze dried and retort technologies by fine tuning a range of freeze-dried recipes – including chicken biryani and pasta Bolognese – with a greatly extended shelf life.

We are hopeful that our pioneering work can help us respond more quickly and effectively to communities affected by natural disasters, and to help communities be prepared by having these non-perishable meals in place prior to events occurring.

4. Welcoming new and returning corporate volunteers and partners

Our corporate volunteering friends have been helping to power FareShare for the past 18 years. Every year, we look forward to welcoming back people from organisations who support us year in, year out. We also look forward to welcoming new organisations and corporate groups into our kitchens and kitchen gardens for the very first time.

For anyone who hasn’t visited our modern, revamped Abbotsford kitchen after its major, year-long expansion yet, it’s well worth seeing. Bring your team in for a meaningful corporate volunteering experience in 2025.

As mentioned above, our Abbotsford kitchen now hosts Meals for the Mob volunteering shifts too. We welcome organisations that are taking meaningful action to advance reconciliation to participate. Contact info@fareshare.net.au for more information about this great opportunity.

We also offer corporate volunteering experiences in our Brisbane kitchen and at our Melbourne kitchen gardens. Whatever volunteering opportunity you prefer, book your spots in soon as our corporate volunteering program continues to be a popular choice for organisations of all sizes, and 2025 slots are filling up fast.

What’s more, FareShare is keen to build collaborative, long-term relationships with organisations in 2025. Visit our corporate partnerships page to see how we can partner with your organisation’s unique operations, culture, social impact and sustainability goals.

5. Community spirit

Kids donating their pocket money. Community members running food drives. A donor giving what little they have. Our legion of incredible volunteers who give up their time every week. The dedication and generosity of our supporters. The heartwarming feedback we get from recipients and frontline charities.

It’s this community spirit that makes FareShare what it is. Without all these pieces falling into place, we could not cook homestyle meals that take the worry out of going hungry and show that we, the community, care.

We’re constantly amazed by you, our community, so we can’t wait to witness this wonderful collective spirit in action once again in 2025.

Thank you for being part of FareShare, and we wish you a very Happy New Year!
